Medical Tourism Company Signs Large Contract with Benefits Association

An industry-first contract was signed between medical tourism facilitator WorldMed Assist and International Association of Benefits, which offers discounted benefits to its members across the U.S. IAB members will be able to choose a fully-facilitated medical journey to one of WorldMed Assist's partner hospitals overseas to get high quality surgery at a steep discount.

Concord, CA (PRWEB) October 29, 2009 -- A break-through contract was announced today between WorldMed Assist, a leading medical tourism company, and International Association of Benefits. IAB is a nonprofit organization with thousands of members across the United States.

Founded in 1982, the primary focus of IAB is to make a positive influence in the lives of families and individuals by providing affordable access to a variety of benefits which include savings on medical and nonmedical services that in most cases are available only to large groups and companies. Thanks to the contract with WorldMed, IAB's members can now save even more money on their health care by having certain medical procedures done overseas at five-star facilities at steeply reduced prices, with every step of their journey facilitated by WorldMed.

"With no near-term sign of reduced health care costs in the United States, medical tourism has become a very attractive option for individuals and companies that is available right now," said WorldMed Assist CEO Wouter Hoeberechts. "Our contract with IAB represents the first contract with an association of its kind for the medical tourism industry."

"We believe this agreement can certainly be beneficial for our members in its own right," said Jerry Clark, President of IAB. "We are always looking to provide the highest quality and value to our members."

Fairmont Specialty, one of IAB's strategic partners, also recognizes the value of this new partnership. Fairmont, a division of Crum & Forster, provides limited medical insurance benefits to some members within the IAB association. "Medical Tourism can significantly reduce the out of pocket medical costs for IAB members," said Gary McGeddy, Executive Vice President of Fairmont.

WorldMed Assist's international health care facilities, now in India, Korea, Mexico, Costa Rica, Turkey and Belgium, are carefully vetted. "New facilities are added only after an intense, multi-day, on-site evaluation that looks deeply into quality, training and experience of its medical personnel and assesses its customer care attitude and capabilities," said Hoeberechts.

"Restoring our patients to good health at a cost they can afford is our sole mission. A heart bypass, for example, averages $149,000 in the U.S. and by having surgery through WorldMed's international network, the cost of the same surgery can be around $12,000."

IAB, in turn, scrutinized a number of medical travel facilitators before choosing WorldMed Assist. "WorldMed's reputation is stellar and they came though our due diligence process as a clear winner. We're confident in the quality of care their services and network will deliver to our members," said IAB's Vice President of Business Operations, Danny Gray. "This addition of a medical travel option to their benefits lets our members select from among the world's best doctors at top-notch facilities for surgery."
