Submitted with bipartisan support the Resolution calls upon the House to commend both the industry and boaters for their $33 billion economic impact and their stewardship of the environment. The document goes on to urge the President to issue a proclamation calling on the people of the United States to observe July 1, 2009 as National Boating Day with activities that emphasize family involvement. Joining Congressman Brown in submitting the Resolution are Ron Klein (D-FL), Candice Miller (R-MI) and Gene Taylor (D-MS).

Thom Dammrich, President of the National Marine Manufacturers Association applauded the co-sponsors and noted, “Not only does recreational boating create jobs, it’s a way for families and friends to spend quality time together.” It is estimated there at least 59 million Americans participate in some form of boating. Boating is also big business. More than 337,000 are employed in the industry which provides wages in excess of $10.4 billion. The nation’s 1,400 boat builders rely on material and services from all 50 states.
