How a Main Street Business, Candles Off Main, Gets Creative with Social Networking to Succeed in Down Economy

It is often during challenging times when businesses get the most creative to survive. Such is the case for Candles Off Main. This specialty store retailer, and online website, is using innovative ways to stimulate business to survive this tough economic climate. Using new social networking tools available on the internet has enabled Candles Off Main to reach out to its ever expanding customer base.

Annapolis, MD (PRWEB) March 31, 2009 -- When Candles Off Main launched their e-commerce site, CandlesOffMain.com, in June of 2006, they set out be as personable on-line as they are in their store in Annapolis, Maryland. What they didn't realize, however, was how much they would interact with their on-line customers three years later. The emerging business utilizes Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Ustream, videos and blogs to engage with potential customers.

David and Susan Adams, the founders of Candles Off Main, recently launched their new internet webcast, The Main Event, to feature new products and announce fragrance launches. The couple airs one episode a day on their video blog. Candles Off Main also offers a text blog to provide product information and how-to instructions on their blog. Recently Candles Off Main launched their "Cyber Store" using Ustream. The savvy business provides unique service by streaming live from their shop at Ustream to offer visual assistance during customer phone calls.

According to Susan Adams, CEO/Co-Owner, "It used to be that all a retail business needed was a storefront. Then came websites followed by e-commerce functionality. Now companies need blogs, videos and live chat functionality to be more interactive with customers to survive. The game has changed and we are embracing new technology to stay current with our clientele to offer more than just products."

Facebook has provided a fantastic platform to provide information on company events, new products and discussion boards to initiate conversations with customers for input. Candles Off Main uses Twitter, to provide immediate information on new product arrivals and announce new videos, as well as to provide impromptu photos and polls.

COO/Co-Owner David Adams states, "To survive this slow economy, we need to get economical and creative with how we reach our customers and attract new business. We need to be everywhere our customers are."
Candles Off Main intends to not only survive the recession, but to come out ahead in the end. By offering exceptional, unique and comprehensive customer service, embracing social networking and leveraging free services on the internet, the growing retailer is well on its way.
