New megapixel cameras are quite expensive but are more often being used instead of line scanners to capture the clearest archival images possible and unlike conventional scanners, there is no need to flatten and put undue stress on delicate bindings. Images can be scanned as black & white or color and in various Dots per Inch (DPI) settings. This new technology can accommodate books of various sizes, shapes, thickness and bindings. As well, priceless, frail and old books are easily protected from undue damage.
