Chicago (Vocus/PRWEB ) April 8, 2009 -- The WAI (Water, Agriculture, and Industry) Africa Foundation (www.waiafricafoundation.org) will officially launch on Sunday, April 12th in Chicago, Illinois. The foundation's goal is to significantly improve the livelihood of Africa's poor by increasing sustainable economic and social development opportunities among rural and urban communities through improving access to clean water in Africa.

Water is the source of all life. Today, 42% of Africans have no access to clean water and nearly 9000 children die everyday due to problems arising from contaminated drinking water. Women and children have to walk for many miles and carry heavy buckets of contaminated water on their heads. During the dry season, women spend countless hours searching for sources of water. Only 4% of African water sources have been harnessed compared to nearly 40% in Asia.

"Our most important goal is to begin empowering the people of Africa," said Jimmy Delano, President and CEO of WAI Africa Foundation. "Providing clean sources of water is the first step to empowering them socially and economically. Once they have a readily available clean source of water, they will be able to focus their lives on improving the living conditions of those that are sick, weak and address other needs. Supplying a village with clean water is the first step is to empowering each community. Once this foundation has been laid, each village then has to power to grow, prosper and become self-sufficient."

WAI Africa is hosting a launch party in Matteson, IL on April 12, 2009 to raise money for building wells in Africa. Once a well is built, it will offer a steady supply of clean water to the people in an African village. The maintenance and management of the well will be run by the church, the primary leadership organization of each village.

"WAI Africa is working to give the people of Africa the opportunity to improve their lives dramatically. In America and other leading world countries, we take having clean water available for granted," commented Diane Bernard, spokesperson for WAI Africa. "By raising awareness and helping people understand the importance of clean water, WAI Africa can open up a line of sponsorships and donations that will improve social and economic conditions and save lives."

The launch event will be held at the Holiday Inn Matteson Hotel & Conference Center in Matteson, IL from 6:30 pm to midnight. The event will feature a silent auction and live music by Matecki Band (Jazz). A pre-recorded CD by Matecki Band will be on sale at the event and on the company website (www.waiafricafoundation.org).

Proceeds from the event will go towards building water wells in Africa and helping African villages lay the foundation of their communities.
