California Entrepreneur is First to Take Advantage of SBDCNet's New Services

San Antonio, TX (PRWEB) May 30, 2009 -- SBDCNet is finding more ways to help entrepreneurs more effectively.
In these challenging financial times, some especially brave entrepreneurs are availing themselves of this wonderful resource to pursue their dreams. This entrepreneurial client of the Northern California SBDC, whose name and product are respectfully withheld per the SBDC confidentiality code, had dreamed of owning and operating his own company since childhood. He recently won $25K in a business plan competition that helped provide even more impetus to his aspirations.
Recognizing the value of services provided by his local Small Business Development Center (SBDC), he turned to them for patent information and soon became a client. Northern California SBDC Associate Director Bob Judevine submitted an extremely detailed and complicated request to http://sbdcnet.org for patent information on his new client's behalf.
The SBDCNet, having recently launched a program offering enhanced research services providing even more in-depth and highly-customized reports, saw this as a perfect opportunity to give the entrepreneur exactly what he asked for.
"I was nonplussed because I didn't know the additional tier existed though it also made immediate sense to me. The client felt it was a good price if the content was solid," said Judevine, when asked his initial response to learning of the additional option for research.
J. Bruce Hughes, Program Manager of the Technology Commercialization at the SBDC Tech center in San Antonio, TX, assumed the lead research role on the project. "This project was particularly satisfying to work on because the client had obviously done a lot of homework. The key words provided by the client facilitated discovery of a wealth of academic research and patent information."
As a client of the SBDC, the entrepreneur/inventor was presented two reports. The first was the research request that the SBDCNet provides at no-cost to an SBDC client. "I thought the free report was very good. My client knew 90% of the info it contained but gaining it was costly in terms of time and digging. We both wish we had called the SBDCNet 2 years ago," said Judevine.
The second report was the in-depth patent report that Hughes prepared for the inventor. The report included number of patents with associated keywords and phrases, a list of patents identified as similar or conflicting, an expert recommendation based on findings and a technological evaluation.
When asked about turnaround time Judevine responded, "Seriously, wow, really great turnaround time and exceptional service in general. I would not have been able to help this client in a meaningful way on this project without SBDCNet. The client was amazed. This research would have taken him six months working nights in his 'spare time.' He was absolutely delighted with the quality of the research," Judevine said.
Some of the new services offered by the SBDCNet include reports on market sizing and analysis, export feasibility, patent evaluation and technology commercialization.
