Bezos Scholars Program @ the World Science Festival Launches New Program and Announces 2009 Scholars
An innovative new scholarship program will bring five high school juniors and five educators from public high schools in the five boroughs of New York City to the World Science Festival, June 10-14, 2009. Post-Festival, during the 2009-2010 academic year, Bezos Scholars will work with scientists on real-world science research projects based on the scholars' fields of interest, which range from molecular biology, cancer research, chemistry, entomology and forensics, to genetics and robotics. Studies will be showcased at the 2010 World Science Festival.
New York, NY (PRWEB) May 22, 2009 - - The Bezos Scholars Program @ the World Science Festival, a new partnership between the Bezos Family Foundation and the World Science Festival, is pleased to announce the 2009 scholars for the pilot year of this annual scholarship.
The innovative five-day, all-expense-paid scholarship will bring five student scholars and five educator scholars from New York City's public high schools--one team from each of the City's five boroughs--to the World Science Festival, June 10-14, 2009.

Post-Festival, during the 2009-2010 academic year (the senior year for the student scholars), Bezos Scholars will work with scientists on real-world science research projects based on the scholars' fields of interest, which range from molecular biology, cancer research, chemistry, entomology and forensics, to genetics and robotics. Those studies will be showcased at the 2010 World Science Festival.
This pilot program has been launched to help foster a strong science legacy in NYC public schools as scholars share their knowledge and excitement with colleagues and peers.

The Bezos Scholars Program @ the World Science Festival was founded in April 2009 to help cultivate leaders in science and science education. The Program is funded by the Bezos Family Foundation and hosted by the World Science Festival. It is the second scholars program initiated by the Bezos Family Foundation. The first program--the Bezos Scholars Program @ the Aspen Institute--was founded in 2005.
