GDA Technologies to Demonstrate 'Pravega' Family of Configurable USB 3.0 Controllers at SuperSpeed USB Developers Conference in Tokyo
GDA to demonstrate "Pravega"--its USB 3.0 family of cores consisting of a highly configurable Superspeed device, hub and host controllers that are interoperable with third party PIPE compatible USB 3.0 PHY's running at 5 Gbits/s maximum speeds.
Tokyo, Japan (PRWEB) May 20, 2009 -- GDA Technologies, Inc., a leader in high speed serial connects, announced today to demonstrate "Pravega"--its USB 3.0 family of cores consisting of a highly configurable Superspeed device, hub and host controllers that are interoperable with third party PIPE compatible USB 3.0 PHY's running at 5 Gbits/s maximum speeds.
GDA has leveraged its strength in high speed interconnect IP and developed its "Pravega" Family of USB3.0 Superspeed cores which can be configured to support host, device and/or hub functionality. GDA is demonstrating on an FPGA platform, USB3 Superspeed protocol using its Pravega Family of IP cores configured as USB 3.0 host and USB 3.0 device. Host controller is xHCI compliant. A proprietary xHCI driver software developed by GDA is used to enumerate USB3.0 devices and manage USB 3.0 traffic on the Superspeed link from the host PC.
The Pravega Device Controller core is architected with a high performance DMA engine and application interface for maximizing performance of streaming data and can be easily adapted to support host and hub functionality. Optionally, the core can also be configured to operate with a customer's existing DMA Engine.
"Our highly configurable USB 3.0 controller cores are architected for easy integration across a variety of applications," noted Ravi Thummarukudy, VP and General Manager of IC and IP division at GDA, in a statement. "We wanted to reach out to customers in Japan with this conference. There are many innovative consumer applications that are enabled by the SuperSpeed USB 3.0," Thummarukudy added.
The controller itself features a very simple application interface that can be easily adapted to standard on-chip-bus interfaces such as AXI, AHB, and OCP as well as other standard off-chip interconnects.
The controller's simple, configurable, and layered architecture is independent of application logic, PHY designs, implementation tools and, most importantly, the target technology. The GDA solution allows licensees to easily migrate optimally amongst FPGA, Gate array, and Standard cell technologies (ASICs). Its flexible backend interface makes it especially easy to integrate the solution into a wide range of consumer applications.
