Musicians Find Their Eco-Friendly Groove

Reverb and PickupPal Join Forces To Green Concert Tours

Portland, ME (PRWEB) May 19, 2009 -- Portland, Maine-based Reverb, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting environmental sustainability in the music industry, today announced a renewed partnership with PickupPal, the leading social networking rideshare system in the world. The organizations had a very successful relationship in 2008, collaborating on tours for Dave Matthews Band, Maroon 5, John Mayer, and Counting Crows. Collectively through the use of ridesharing to their concerts, fans of these bands stopped over 475,000 pounds of CO2 from going into the atmosphere.

"Reverb facilitates many greening efforts on bands' tours, and we were searching for a way to deal head-on with the biggest carbon producer for concert events - the transportation of fans to and from the venue. The PickupPal service was a natural fit for this," said Brian Allenby, General Manager of Reverb.

PickupPal provides a custom, profile-based matching service - not unlike the online dating world - for drivers and passengers with mutual interests to hook up and share their transportation, tracking the miles travelled and carbon avoided as a result. Bands such as The Dead, Dave Matthews Band, Phish, The Fray and John Legend have already signed on for 2009.

"We're thrilled that major artists and role models like The Dave Matthews Band continue to voice their concerns around the environment, and more importantly are taking measurable action to reduce their own carbon footprint," commented John Stewart, CEO of PickupPal.

The same service used by these artists is now available to any organization around the world to set up their own public or private rideshare group. PickupPal Groups is a new self-serve solution, enabling a person, group, organization, business, event or community to create a distinctive, geographically defined and access controlled ridesharing group.
