The GPYP Cinderella Story Back on The Road on June 6, 2009 in NYC

Once upon a time a ne'er do well kid from the Bronx had no options. Instead of waiting for a prince that didn't exist, she found her own glass slipper and now teaches others to do the same wth semnars and a new book.

New York, NY (PRWEB) May 14, 2009 -- Susan Elliott's approach to teaching motivational seminars draws upon her own "Cinderella story" as well as her vast academic training. Elliott has developed a systematic approach for students who have had disadvantaged pasts and want to build a successful future. The recently released book, Getting Past Your Breakup: How To Turn A Devastating Loss Into The Best Thing That Ever Happened To You lays out the systematic approach to getting over the painful end of a relationship as well as a short version of her own story.

Elliott grew up as a foster child in the Bronx feeling like a castoff. Her birth mother's abandonment fueled her opinion that she didn't matter to anyone. When her foster parents adopted her at the age of 8, their alcoholic marriage disintegrated and the family was plunged into chaos. She gravitated toward abusive people and chaotic situations thinking there was no way out. As a teenager, she spent all her time wishing for someone to save her.

No one saved her. She had to save herself and did so. She managed to cobble together a life that most people only dream about. The incredible story of her dramatic turnaround is one that people clamor to hear and they want step-by-step instruction as to how to transform their own painful situations.

Her next seminar on June 6th in NYC is a workshop on how to best utilize the book materials followed by a question and answer session where students can ask anything. It's a chance to get personal attention from the much-in-demand author and speaker. Seminar attendees give her workshops amazing reviews, and often stay In touch with her by email. One student encouraged his friends to sign up for her classes saying, "She is the next big thing. Get to her seminars before she's so popular you can't get in." To register go here.

Although she is a trained therapist, a certified grief counselor and a licensed attorney, she says her best teaching happens when she just speaks straight from the heart. "I don't know why, but people like to hear my story," Elliott says, "And if I went through all that for someone else to find a better life through my story, then it's truly worth it." Although all the letters behind her name give her credibility and she incorporates much of her academic training into her program, her greatest strength, she says, is that "I don't ask students to do anything I haven't done."

Recently Elliott's husband of 13 years, Michael DiCarlo, was diagnosed with terminal cancer. The situation rocked her but she continues to carry the message that the only way out is through. "I've been writing about Michael's illness on a blog called RopeBurns and sharing my grief with my readers. I've learned that is how you get through it. I am practicing everything I teach." It's another example of how she walks her talk and how her own life serves as inspiration for those who seek her counsel.

In addition to the book, teaching and speaking, Elliott writes a daily blog at Getting Past Your Past, and has released podcasts and audio materials on her blog and website.
