Health IT Needs of Primary Care Practices Key to Defining "Meaningful Use" of Federal Dollars for Health IT
May 28 Webinar outlines how health IT can facilitate care coordination, integration in patient centered medical home practices (www.health2resources.com).
Washington, DC (PRWEB) May 12, 2009 -- A new Webinar slated for May 28, 2009, makes the vital connection between health care information technology and the leading model for health care transformation: the patient centered medical home.
The Webinar, produced by Health2 Resources and sponsored by the Patient-Centered Primary Care Collaborative (PCPCC), will focus on results of expert working groups from the PCPCC Center for Health Information Adoption and Exchange that defined five key health information technology (health IT) capabilities aligning directly with the Joint Principles of the patient centered medical home (PCMH). The Webinar will also include insight gleaned from case examples obtained from over 100 primary care medical practices who are currently applying health IT in their practices. The PCMH aims to partner every American with a primary health care clinician who is responsible and accountable for ongoing care and care coordination.
"Health IT is a key component of the medical home for successful clinician-to-consumer communication, care coordination and use of evidence-based medicine," said Edwina Rogers, executive director of the PCPCC. "Before investing, it is important to consider what capabilities and functions that electronic medical records, patient registries and other tools offer to support the PCMH."
The Obama administration has allocated $19 billion to fund the "meaningful use" of electronic medical records. The Webinar is an interactive opportunity to examine the use of health IT for CEOs, physician practice leaders, IT officers, medical directors, health plans, hospital leaders, business development and strategic planning directors.
The Webinar is May 28, 2009 from 2 to 3:15 p.m. EST. To register, go to http://archive.constantcontact.com/fs067/1101292888704/archive/1102572136532.html. Other resources available from the PCPCC, the primary national source for information about the patient centered medical home, include the PCPCC's Purchaser's Guide, Pilot Guide and CeHIA Resource Guide.
