Mother of Two Launches Website To Sell 1 Million Gumballs To Pay For Lifelong Dreams
A 30-year-old mother of two is hoping to start a new family focused bed and breakfast on a tropical island by selling 1 million gumballs on a unique cube art installation.
Ojai, CA (PRWEB) May 12, 2009 -- Christa Waydo, from Ojai, CA, set up www.milliongumballs.com after brainstorming of ways to materialize her dreams of starting a new family focused bed and breakfast on a tropical island. Waydo is offering the opportunity for individuals and businesses to add their logo, name, birth date, or other words, numbers and phrases designed with gumballs to the surface of a giant 10'x10'x10' cube art installation. A total of 1,058,480 gumballs weighing approximately one ton will cover 5 sides of the cube, with the bottom side resting on the ground.
Waydo said her mother's recent health problems put her into action mode: "You only live once and I want to make my dreams of creating a fabulous tropical island bed and breakfast a reality sooner than later - while I'm still full of piss and vinegar! I want to make this happen before my time is up on this planet."
So far Waydo has sold 1,578 gumballs to friends, family and random strangers. "There have been some interesting phrases ordered so far from people all around the world," Waydo commented, "from well wishes to soldiers in Afghanistan to famous quotes to congratulatory messages. There's even a marriage proposal that will wait until the project is completed."
Waydo says that people can use the gumballs to say anything they want and businesses have an opportunity to display their actual business logo on custom logo gumballs. "It's a real interesting way to unite the world and let people have their say in a fun, colorful way," Waydo said.
Waydo believes that the gumball purchases will offer great value because there is a significant probability that the art installation will end up on display in a major museum. "There has been interest from museums, galleries, and private collectors from all around the world. Several non-profits have also contacted me to see if I'd be willing to auction it off for charity once it's completed so that's a real big possibility as well. Overall, the response has been great and I'm really grateful for all the opportunities," Waydo explained.
