Companies with 0871 and 0872 phone numbers have just months left to comply with new consumer protection rules taking effect this summer, warns telephone numbers supplier Commsready. From August 1 2009, the premium-rate regulator PhonepayPlus will regulate 0871 and 0872 numbers that are typically charged above 5p per minute and up to 10p per minute (for BT customers).

Gosport, Hampshire (PRWEB) May 3, 2009 -- Companies with 0871 and 0872 phone numbers have just months left to comply with new consumer protection rules taking effect this summer, warns telephone numbers supplier Commsready.

From August 1 2009, the premium-rate regulator PhonepayPlus will regulate 0871 and 0872 numbers that are typically charged above 5p per minute and up to 10p per minute (for BT customers).

UK telecom solutions provider Commsready is advising companies to review their 0871 and 0872 number strategies ahead of the impending regulatory changes.

Hampshire-based Commsready is offering 0844 numbers as a simple and compliant alternative to companies wishing to maintain a revenue share for incoming calls.

"0844 numbers are not only a simpler alternative to 0871 and 0872 numbers, they reduce the cost of calls for your customers while still giving you a revenue share," said a Commsready spokesman.

This lower cost makes them less emotive than 0871 and 0872 numbers.

"Consumers have expressed a range of concerns to Ofcom about 0871 and 0872 numbers, including a lack of clarity about call pricing and excessively long call centre waiting times."

But 0844 numbers are much cheaper - costing up to 5p per minute - and so are better accepted by consumers, while still maintaining revenue share for companies.
